On 21 January '68 the Khe Sanh supply point for ammunition was hit by incoming enemy artillery and mortar fire. The ammo dump exploded and 1,422 short tons of munitions were destroyed. This was about 98% of the ammo in the dump! Emergency airlifts increased to Khe Sanh as more munitions were needed to re-supply the base for its loss.B-52s from Guam and Thailand dropped their payload of bombs every three hours around the clock to defend the baseSource Photos - Vietnam Marine Corps (B/W)…Page 36 by alan326 - 15 hours ago |

The M-16A1 had a stock made of composite plastic and fired a 5.56mm bullet. In Eye Corps the Marines began to phase in the M-16 in late 1966. The M-16 did not start off its career very well as malfunctions saw the M-16 jamming and Marines getting killed. An Congressional Inquiry was held into the M-16s problems and the results were that the fault was the extraction of spent cartridge cases. Sometimes the case jammed, a distinct problem during full fire fight!Source Photos - Vietnam Marine Corps (B/W)…Page 3 by alan326 - 15 hours ago |
