5 April 1943: Archbishop Francis J. Spellman visits with crewmen of the 91st Bomb Group prior to their mission to Antwerp. Spellman, ordained in the Archdiocese of Boston in 1913, had tried to become a chaplain during the First World War, but was thwarted by his bishop. Appointed to lead the Archdiocese of New York in 1939, Spellman did "double duty" as prelate for the U.S. military forces - getting his wish to serve as a chaplain after all.

B-17G 42-97562 "Evenin' Folks - How Y'All" (coded DF-D) of the 324th Bomb Sq, 91st BG. Originally assigned 27 February 1944, the ship did a brief stint with the 457th BG in mid-March. With her "Mickey" (radar pathfinder) configuration, she sherved as a Group Lead aircraft 32 times during her tour. She left Bassingbourn in late July to serve with other groups, finishing the war with the 306th BG.
