I guess I never really thought of this like that. Eisenhower had gained such prestige by the time of June 1944, that the responsibility of the war basically laid with him.

This picture shows him as one of his soldiers. Usually, the appearance of Generals is distant and cold. Eisenhower, apparently, was not like that.
