- 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW). Photographer: Staff Sergeant(SSgt.) R. Savatt. CHU LAI LANDING--Marines and helicopters of Marine Aircraft Group(MAG)-36 move ashore at Chu Lai, Vietnam. Augmenting helicopter units serving at Danang, the unit sailed for Vietnam from El Toro, California (Calif.), to land here. The choppers of four squadrons were moved aboard the Landing Platform Helicopter(LPH)-5 USS PRINCETON. Beyond are the transports USS CORNSTOCK and IBERVILLE on which men and equipment were embarked.

These captioned, black & white photographs include scenes from combat and evacuation operations; and personalities such as President Ngo Dinh Diem, US presidents Johnson and Nixon, and personalities such as Walter Cronkite, Martha Raye, and Bob Hope. There are views of interactions between Marine Corps personnel and Vietnamese civilians. Also in this series are photos of Operation Homecoming, the return of American Marine prisoners of war to the United States.
