    • 2LT Winfield F. Muffett (L), copilot of B-17G 42-98004 of the 508th Bomb Sq, 351st BG, stands in the flak-manufactured opening of his aircraft, 27 September 1944. The ball turret gunner, SGT Kenneth D. Divil, was KIA this mission. Judging from the looks of things, the turret was probably severed from its mount in the explosion.
