Over 58,000 names of those who died or were listed as missing in the Vietnam War are carved in the black granite memorial, which begins with the inscription: "In honor of the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States who served in the Vietnam War. The names of those who gave their lives and of those who remain missing are inscribed in the order they were taken from us."

Warren I never met you but my brother Pete and you were best friends in Hawaii. He was the only one who could wake you and not have to worry about you coming up swinging. I am a Viet Nam vet also, one of the lucky ones who came home. I wanted you to know it took Pete a long time to visit you at the wall, and he thinks about you alot as do I. I visit the wall as often as I can and say a prayer for you and all our brothers and sisters on the wall. Rest in peace brother till we all meet again.
