Arthur was later captured defending Bataan and taken to Palawan where he either died in captvity or was one of those massacred in 1944 when the Japanese set the bunker on fire the men were told to enter. Records are sketchy but he seems to have been one of those killed there. Irregardless he did die in the Philippines at the start of the war.
