Jacob Wark Griffith was the father of the motion picture film director D. W. Griffith. Col. Griffith's tombstone reads as follows: "Colonel Jacob Wark Griffith, twice brevetted Brigadier General at close of the Civil War. Twice elected to the House of Representatives. Served with Humphrey Marshall's First Kentucky Cavalry in the Mexican War. Commanded the first Wagon Train at this period to ...more

This was my Great Great Grandfather. He served with John Hunt Morgan (Morgan's Raiders) He was captured after the battle of Perryville and spent the duration of the war in a Union prison camp. After the war he returned to Danville, KY where he worked as a judge. He is buried in the national cemetery in Danville, KY.
