FUNERAL NOTICE OF MARTIN VANBUREN CANNEDY

| Greenfield,Illinois

    Died at his home in Greenfield,Illinois on Friday, Feb. 26, 1931 at 11:51 p.m., Martin Vanburen Cannedy, age 88 yrs, 9 months, 27 days.  Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church in Greenfield,IL. on Sunday, Feb. 28, 1931 at 3:00 p.m. member of Company H, 144th Illinois Infantry.  Internment at Rose Hill Cemetery under the auspices of the American Legion.  William R. Johnson officiating.  Martin VanBuren Cannedy was the son of James and Eliza Grizzle Cannedy, the youngest of thirteen children, and the last to die.  On Dec. 3, 1863 he was married to Sarah Jane Wilson, six children born to them, two of whom survive, Scott Cannedy of Cleveland,Ohio, and Mrs. Steven Witt from Greenfield Illinois.  Mrs. Cannedy died in 1876.  He was later married to Serilda J. Cowart and four children were born to this union, three of whom survive: Mrs. Lily Wade, Mrs. Ralph (Jenny) Hall of Greenfield and William Cannedy cashier of the State Bank of Elred.  His wife died in 1890.  Mr. Cannedy was a Civil War veteran, and for 40 yrs. was quartermaster of the Wisener Post GAR of Greenfield  and was an assessor for Rockbridge town for 30 yrs.

A daughter of Martin Vanburen Cannedy, Sarah E. Cannedy was my grandmother who died in 1917 in St. Louis Missouri and is buried along side of my grandfather Robert Rothrock Banister in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greenfield,Illinois.
