William the Conqueror besieges English coastline.

Formally the Duke of Normandy, on September 29, 1066, William I invaded England, establishing himself as King, the 1st of the Norman dynasty of English kings. His supressing of English revolts was a large part of the Norman Conquest, and was a signficant event in the development of England during the Middle Ages. In addition to the many changes he instituted, he changed English law and introduced continental feudalism to England, a practice commonly used in Western Europe.
