United Mine Workers end strike after 5 months.

| Eastern Pennsylvania

Following 5 long months, on October 21, 1902, the United Mine Workers ended its coal strike, threatening the shutdown of the winter fuel supply for many eastern cities.  Although the strike did not resume after, President Theodore Roosevelt became involved, beginning a commission to investigate worker conditions.  The strike was resolved with the union receiving more money for working fewer hours.  This was remembered as the first time the government became involved with labor disputes.
