Clinch Mountian separates Virginia and Kentucky. My wife's family was thus divided during the Civil War.

Image # 1 Pvt. George W. Gibson Company C 11 th Ky Cav. Residence: Mercer County, Kentucky. Son of Silas M. Gibson & Casandra Wiley. Paternal gr,grandfather of my wife's paternal grandmother, Mary Gibson Phillips. Enlisted on 8/18/1862 at Louisville, KY as a Private. On 9/22/1862 he mustered into 'C' Co. KY 11th Cavalry. The " Horse Soldiers from the Bluegrass. " He was discharged on 5/22/1865.

Image # 2 Pvt. Silas Anderson Company D 11 th Ky. Cav. Nephew of George W. Gibson. Son of his sister, Nancy Gibson & Peter Anderson. Residence: Mercer or Washington County, Kentucky. Enlisted on 7/19/1862 at Knoxville, TN as a Private. On 9/22/1862 he mustered into 'D' Co. KY 11th Cavalry. POW 11/14/1863 Maryville, TN. He died of disease as POW on 6/12/1864 at Andersonville, GA. Buried at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA. His Mother (Nancy Anderson) applied for a pension on 5/8/1888 from the state of IN. Roll of Honor Information:
Date of Death listed as 6/3/1864.

Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA (Grave #1575)

Image # 3 Pvt Robert Gibson Company L 6th Ky. Inf. Brother of George W. Gibson. Residence Mercer or Washington County in Kentucky. Enlisted on 8/22/1862 at Louisville, KY as a Private. He mustered into 'L' Co. KY 6th Cavalry on 9/15/1862. He was Mustered Out on 7/14/1865 at Edgefield, TN.

Image # 4 Pvt Joseph Gibson, Company K 49th Ky. Inf Married to Hannah Gibson ( sister of George W. Gibson ) Residence: Mercer County, Kentucky. Enlisted on 7/21/1863 at Camp Nelson, KY as a Private. On 9/19/1863 he mustered into 'K' Co. KY 49th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 12/26/1864 at Lexington, KY. 

Image # 5 Pvt. David Johnson Co. F 49th Ky. Inf. Married to Elizabeth Gibson sister of George W. Gibson. Residence: Mercer County,Ky. Enlisted on 7/20/1863 at Camp Nelson, KY as a Private. On 9/19/1863 he mustered into 'F' Co. KY 49th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 12/26/1864 at Lexington, KY.

Image # 6 Pvt Stith Mayes ( Maze ) Goldsmith Co F 10th Ky. Inf. Son of Jesse Goldsmith & Louisa Riley, brother of Louisa Goldsmith Gibson, wife of Sidney Gibson and paternal grandmother to Mary Lee Gibson Phillips, my wife's paternal grandmother. CMR listed in the name of MAZE GOLDSMITH.  Enlisted on 11/4/1861 at Lebanon, KY as a Private. On 11/21/1861 he mustered into 'F' Co. KY 10th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 12/6/1864 at Louisville, KY.

Image # 7 Private Marcus LaFayette Goldsmith Co. C 28th Ky. Cav. Son of John Rolland Goldsmith & Ann Greenwood. ( 1st cousin to Mayes Goldsmith ) Enlisted on 11/14/1861 at New Haven, KY as a Corporal. On 1/23/1862 he mustered into 'C' Co. KY 28th Infantry. He Re-enlisted on 1/5/1864. Promoted to Sergt 3/1/1865. Was badly wounded in a charge at Pine Mt.Ga. June 17,1864. and was out of action until March 7th, 1865. The following describes that action : ' In a charge near Pine Mountain, Ga. lost 4 men killed and 12 wounded. In the month of June the killed and wounded of the regiment numbered 56.' 

 No Image ( No Pension ? ) Pvt. Henry Goldsmith Co. B 23 Ky. Inf. 1st cousin to Mayes & Louisa Goldsmith. Enlisted on 10/19/1861 at Camp King, KY as a Private. On 12/8/1861 he mustered into 'B' Co. This regiment was organized at Camp King near Covington. In the list of sixteen battles named on the colors of the regiment by order of Gen. Grant, appear Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, New Hope Church, Pine Top, Kennesaw Mountain, Smyrna, Atlanta, Lovejoy's Station, all in the Atlanta campaign.

Image # 8 Pvt James S. Goldsmith Co. D 4th Ky. Cav. 1st cousin to our Goldsmith ancestors, On 9/21/1862 he mustered into 'D' Co.
He was Mustered Out on 6/14/1865 at Louisville, KY. Captured at
the battle of Chickamauga Georgia September 19, 1863. Along side him in this
battle was a distant cousin from Mauckport Ind., Marion Goldsmith, who
served in the Indiana 38th Vol., Co. B. This was the battle in which Marion
was wounded. 

Image # 9 Pvt. Jesse Campbell ( Camel ) Ward Pvt Co.D 33rd Ky.Inf.& Co.K 26th Ky. Inf. ( Probably CAMPBELL pronounced with a speech impediment sounded like " Camel " ) The maternal gr,grandfather of Mary Gibson Phillips, my wife's paternal grandmother. Injured his back & shoulders on a raid to Saltville, Va. ( horse fell with him ) Enlisted on 9/1/1862 at Munfordsville, KY as a Private. On 9/13/1862 he mustered into 'D' Co. KY 33rd Infantry.  He was transferred out on 4/1/1864. He transferred into 'K' Co. KY 26th Infantry ( same day ) He was Mustered Out on 6/30/1865 at Salisbury, NC.
