Captain David Neff's CSA Record for NC and Tennessee

This is a picture of Capt. David Neff and his lieutenant. I'm not sure where or exactly when this picture was taken.

David Neff, Capt. of Co. G of Thomas Legion, North Carolina Troops.

David appears on a company muster and descriptive roll fo the organization. Volunteeres or Mounted Riflemen enlisgted and mustered into the service of the Confederate States September 24, 1862 at Dandridge, Tennessee for local defense.

David was 53 years of age, 5'6 1/2" tall; dark complected with blue eyes and gray hair. He was a farmer who lived in Jefferson County, Tennessee. According to this record he was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia.

 He enlisted on 24 Sept 1862 by Capt. J.W. Terrell for 3 years or during the war.

Company G transferred to 1st (Carter's) Regiment Tennessee Cavalry about November 1862 to become Company H.

As Thomas Legion, Co G becomes Co H of 1st Tenn Cavalry I will add more cards and information----- just as soon as the Tennessee records are complete at footnote.com.

 David is taken as POW and it will be interesting to see all of those cards.

David Neff, Capt. of Co C of 1st Tenn Cav appears on a descriptive roll of POW at Camp Chase, Ohio. He was arrested at Somerset, Ky on March 30, 1863.

He was received at Camp Chase, Ohio on April 7, 1863 from Lexington, KY by order of Brig. Genl. Wilcox.

David Neff was listed as 5'7"; age 54; grey eyes and grey hair with dark complexion.

He departed Camp Chase on April 10, 1863 for Fort Delaware.

David Neff, Capt. of Co. H 1 Reg't Tenn appears as a signature to a Roll of POW Paroled at Fort Delaware, Del on April 25, 1863.

He was captured at Somerset, KY on March 30, 1863.

Indorsement shows: Received City Point, VA May 4th, 1863 from Jno. E. Mulford, Capt. of 3rd Infty N.Y.V., Five Hundred and Ninety Eight Confederate POW paroled for exchange.
