Pistons History

Ft Wayne, Indiana

The Pistons were started in the old NBL in the 1941-1942 Season. They played in that league as the Ft Wayne Pistons until 1948. Then they joined the league that would become the NBA, dropping the word "Zollner" from the team name.

Low Score

In 1950, the Pistons beat the Minneapolis Lakers by a score of 19-18. It was the lowest scoring game.

Comments

The reason the score was so low was the use of ZONE defenses Shortly after this game the Zone defense was banned because people got bored by the lack of scoring It is also to be noted that this was before the advent of the jump shot which was invented by a member of the San Francisco college team....Hank Lusetti... But at first it was considered walking because in order to get the shot off you had to move the pivot foot But it changed the game and increased scoring which made the game mpre exciting so the NBA change the walking CALL thereby making the moving pivot legal hldye@comcast.net

The Pistons were formed from earlier basketball semi-pro team in Fort Wayne that my dad played on in the early 1930's.
