Description
Cuyahoga County, Ohio, was formed in 1808. Prior to that, it was part of Geauga and Trumbull counties, both of which were formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve in northeastern Ohio. The county seat is Cleveland, located on Lake Erie, and the largest city in Cuyahoga County. The name Cuyahoga is a Native American word for crooked river.
Document types
These returns of birth are different from the birth certificates we are familiar with in our contemporary world. The parents' names are given, as well as many facts about the parents, but very few of the returns will give a baby's name. Instead, the child is listed with place of birth (often a residence), who delivered him or her, and the birth date.
