Why these are interesting to me

Before he became President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ezra Taft Benson was Secretary of Agriculture for President Eisenhower. As I am LDS, this is interesting to the history of my church leaders.  So when I was reviewing the Eisenhower photos, I searched for Ezra Taft Benson and these are a few of the images that I've found.

I wrote a blog post about these images last month.

Oath of Office

This is a photo of President Benson when he was being sworn in to office as the Secretary of Agriculture under President Eisenhower.  The caption indicates that he was sworn in by Chief Justice Vinson with President Eisenhower looking on in January 1953.

Secretary Benson in the News

By doing another search on "Ezra Taft Benson" a couple of months later, I found some references to Secretary Benson in the Halifax Gazette and the Gazette Virginian (the same paper that changed names. See more information on them at http://www.footnote.com/documents/6282469/news-gazette-virginian and http://www.footnote.com/documents/6570402/news-halifax-gazette ). While not as cool as the photos, these do highlight some of the issues that President Benson had to deal with as Secretary of Agriculture.
