When I was aa teenager, I had a "MIA bracelet" with Major Hartness's name and the date he went missing engraved on the bracelet. I still have that bracelet. My only family member who came anywhere near to serving in Vietnam was my Uncle. He was in the Air Force and was stationed in Guam in 1969-70. His was a relatively "safe" tour, and he completed his service and returned home in one piece. I was only about 10 years old at the time, but I was aware of the tenseness, the unspoken fear for his safely and wellbeing. My thoughts are with Maj. Hatness's family. I can't imagine losing my dad, husband or son, and never being able to see or speak to him again, or even know what became of him.
