Chester M. Ovnand is the second name inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Sergeant Ovnand died on July 8, 1959, when Vietnamese terrorists attacked a military base in Bien Hoa. Ovnand and five other men were watching a movie when, at intermission, assassins attacked and killed Sergeant Ovnand and Major Dale R. Buis. Ovnand's name is misspelled on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as Chester N. Ovnard, but it appears correctly further down on the memorial. Chester was also widely known as Charles amongst his great many friends and family.
