Leroy Kenneth Scoby (later used "Schoby") was born on 12 September 1849 in Miami County, Ohio. He enlisted in the Union Army towards the end of the Civil War (192nd O.V.I.) and later joined the regular Army, serving out West. William Scoby was actually born in New Jersey. The census says "Penn." meaning Pennsylvania. He lived in Fayette County, Pennsylvania in his youth before moving with his family to Miami County, Ohio.

Louise Schneider (neƩ Badstuber) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of Max and Lisette Badstuber. She married George Schneider in Cleveland in 1923. George took up a position at Illinois College in 1924 teaching mathematics. Louise Schneider died in 1932 in Jacksonville and is buried with her parents, grandfather, husband and infant daughter at West Park Cemetery in Cleveland.
