    My great-great grandfather William B. Phillips was a personal friend of John Norris. Both were officers in the 2nd. PA Provisional Heavy Artillery and were captured at the Battle of the Crater. They were imprisoned together at Camp Asylum, Columbia, S.C. I have 2 original letters written by John Norris to my ancestor dated 8 May and 15 September 1865. They can be viewed online at ...more
