Charles W. Chesnut was an African American writer. This record reflects the birth of Charles and Susan Chesnut's youngest daughter. Although the given name is that of her mother, Susan U. Chesnut, the child is referenced in all of her father's biographies as Dorothy. The 1900 Cleveland Census lists her as Dorothy Chesnut, born December 1890.
