Does Lincoln Memorial use sign language?

I have heard that Daniel Chester French, the deaf sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial, might have arranged Lincoln's hands to form an "A" (fist) and "L" (finger and thumb pointing). Does anyone have definitive evidence of the sculptor's intent?

I just found what the National Park Service says about it.
Is Lincoln Signing his intials? No. Yet another urban legend. The artist studied casts of the former Presidents hands to get the proper appearance- http://www.nps.gov/linc/faq

Lincoln did sign federal legislation giving Gallaudet University, a university for the deaf, the authority to grant college degrees.
