This may be previously unknown. Most Fort Davis accounts just say that the Confederates abandoned the site.

Followup--When I couldn't find this letter cited in accounts of Ft. Davis, I contacted the Natl Hist Site, and sure enough, it was new to them. I sent a transcription and suggested they contact the Natl Archives for a good copy of the original.
